Peter Sagan World Championship Edition

On September 27th Peter Sagan was crowned the 2015 Race World Champion in Richmond Virginia. The Slovakian is the 12th Specialized rider to win the World Championship and wear the rainbow jersey. Peter Sagan stands proudly alongside the likes of, Paolo Bettini, Mario Cipollini, Mark Cavendish, Michal Kwiatkowski, Lizzie Armitstead, also a 2015 winner, who have all won the road race in the past. In addition, Tony Martin, Ellen Van Djik, and Lisa Brennauer have all won individual time trial world championships to match with two Team Time Trial wins from Etixx – Quick-Step and Specialized lululemon.

Specialized has chosen to celebrate the biggest single day race victory of the professional season with a custom designed bike for the Tinkoff-Saxo rider. “When designing Peter’s worlds bike I took three important factors into consideration.” said Ron Jones Lead Road designer at Specialized. “The first, of course, is Peter’s panache and flair on the bike. I’ve translated this into the rainbow effect paint, camouflage, and gold head badge on the bike. Second is his respect for the sport, which is represented by the placement of the names of all winners of previous world championships in the down tube logos. I felt it was important for both past winners and our newest champion to be represented in this way. And then there’s his Slovakian heritage, a design cue which I added by applying elements of the flag in the graphic, as well as transitioning the rainbow camouflage into the Slovakian flag colors on the fork and seat stay. Peter had a big challenge ahead of him with such a small team, but having their constant, vigilant support made all the difference for him on the day.”

“I didn’t want to be creatively limited by adhering rigidly to the traditional rainbow stripes, so avoiding them was a definite design choice for me. I choose a black and rainbow base over a more traditional white, and my goal was for this to be disruptive – kind of like Sagan’s personality and style is.” he added.

Both Peter and his bike will wear their new colors during the next race at Abu Dhabi before being called to face new experiences and ride over thousands of kilometers together during the following professional season.

Here’s what a still astonished Peter Sagan declared after having unveiled the bike “I really like this bike. I am really satisfied to able to ride it next year together with the rainbow jersey. I’ll have a lot of responsibilities but I am ready for the challenge”.
